This is a seminar about nothing. Of course, nothing is ever quite that simple. In this class we will explore some recent developments in thought that challenge extant notions of meaning. What happens if the world is inherently devoid of meaning? How might art and practice engage such a thing? How might this notion intersect with the techno-apparatus that inserts itself into our daily being? We will explore the non-philosophy of Laruelle, the Speculative Realism of Harman, Meillassoux and Brassier. We will consider an Object-Oriented Philosophy and imagine how art might respond/engage this mode of thinking.
