Description
An episode of the BBC arts programme Imagine presented by Alan Yentob, focusing on the artist Bruce Nauman. Quote: American artist Bruce Nauman (b. 1941) is one of the preeminent figures in contemporary art. Coinciding with his sound installation at the Tate Modern in London in 2004-2005, this film explores the career of an artist whose work has constantly pushed the boundaries of art and challenged audiences worldwide. Since the beginning of his career, Nauman has used very diverse means of expression: video, performance, installation, sculpture, drawing and neon. In the late 1960s, he began to focus on the theme of his body and its movements. Sound has now become an essential component of his installations: in Raw Materials, the installation he created for the Tate Modern, these immaterial waves permeate the space, dissociating it from all visual elements. Nauman, who rarely talks to the media, gives an in-depth interview, while other contributors include artists Damien Hirst, Douglas Gordon and Tony Oursler.
