Mark Leckey MyAlbum: A Rough-Demo Video [AKA MyAlbum: A Rough-Demo Version] 2014-15 video, colour, sound 17’40’’. Commissioned by FLAMIN Productions through Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network, supported by Art Council. Film London: Production Executives: Maggie Ellis and Rose Cupit, Production Assistant: Ester Catala, Production Advisor: Pinky Ghundale Quote: “‘MyAlbum’ is a record of all the events in my life during the twentieth century that I feel were significant. It is a memoir from 1954 until 1999.” Mark Leckey This rough-demo version premiered at Leckey s solo exhibition As If, Haus der Kunst, Munich (30.01.15 — 31.05.15) and would go on to form the basis of DREAM ENGLISH KID 1964-1999AD (first exhibited Cabinet Gallery 16.10.15 — 19.12.15). The story begins in 1954, ten years before Leckey was born, with the birth of rock and roll as his father-figure and ends in 1999 with the threat of the Y2K or Millenium Bug. Similar to an album with different tracks, Leckey tells of stages of development: The awakening of erotic desire as he watches his aunt in her bedroom changing, or trying to find a trace of himself in a Joy Division matinee concert he attended in 1979, now on YouTube.
