Wim Delvoye Born 1965, Wervik, Belgium. the artist lives and works in Gent and London. The work of Wim Delvoye insists on putting a special emphasis on the effects of appearance that many of his projects contain, and although at first sight there is harmony or a certain ingenuity, the fact is that what he is aiming at is to unsettle, saturation with an excess of ornamentation and ideas and a parodic effectthanks to the irony surrounding his work. As he himself insinuates, his work is like a game of ping-pong, in which he runs untiringly from one side of the net to the other, that is between high and low culture. What remains to be seen, though, is whether Wim Delvoye will reach the same conclusion as Georges Bataille: It is clear that the world is purely parodic, that is that everything we see is a parody of something else, or even the same thing in an even more deceptive form.
